Meet Kai, the Voice of DailyNyan

“Boys, be ambitious. Be ambitious not for money or for selfish aggrandizement, not for that evanescent thing which men call fame. Be ambitious for the attainment of all that a man ought to be.”

Those words were spoken by William Smith Clark, an American educator who came to Japan in the nineteenth century to help establish what is now Hokkaido University. He stayed for only eight months, but his influence lasted far longer. His message encouraged young people in Japan to aim for something meaningful, something rooted in character and purpose. That spirit stayed with me, and it led me to create DailyNyan.

Japan gave me so much happiness in life that I wanted to give some back. The people, the culture, the food, the traditions, the small everyday moments that make life feel warm and full. My love for anything Japanese became the heart of this project. I wanted a place that spreads positivity, because I felt there was not enough of it, and a place that celebrates the country that has inspired me for so many years.

DailyNyan began as a small idea. I was not sure if it had a future. Many times I wondered if anyone would ever read my stories or feel the happiness I hoped to share. I doubted myself more than once, but I kept going. I wrote, revised, learned, and tried again. If you are reading this now, it means the effort mattered. It means the words reached someone, and the dream grew beyond the page.

Along the way, I realized I did not want to walk this path alone. So I created Mochi, the mascot of DailyNyan. Mochi became my companion, a symbol of curiosity and kindness, and a reminder that even the smallest character can bring comfort and joy. He appears throughout the site, watching over articles, causing mischief, and keeping me company as I write. Mochi represents the heart of DailyNyan and the feeling I want readers to experience.

DailyNyan also carries a purpose that is not immediately visible. My ambition is to grow this project large enough to support a Kodomo Shokudō that stays open every day of the year and provides free food for anyone in need. A place where kindness becomes something real and where positivity turns into a warm meal for a person who needs it. This is the kind of ambition Clark spoke about, not ambition for fame, but ambition for something far more meaningful.

Until that day arrives, I will continue writing about the moments that make Japan feel alive. The small discoveries, the gentle surprises, the things that remind us that life can be bright. DailyNyan is my way of giving back to the country that gave me so much.
